Keeping it local this Thanksgiving

A quiet moment on Main Street during last year’s holiday season.

With Thanksgiving just a few short weeks away, it’s time to start planning what to buy, where to buy it, and when. The good news is that living in Beacon, NY, you can pick up almost everything locally and turn out a holiday feast to remember. Whether guests are turkey-loving, gluten-free, or vegan, Main Street has you covered. And we’re spoiled for choice when it comes to table presentation or hostess gifts. Here’s what we know so far about some of our local offerings. We’ll keep adding to this feature in the lead up to Thanksgiving.

Food for the table

The chefs among us love to prepare everything from scratch, but some of us prefer to leave at least part of the cooking to the experts. We’re not ashamed of being in the latter category this year!

No need to cook

The Beacon Daily offers a Thanksgiving catered menu

The Beacon Daily (29 Teller Avenue)

Hugely popular and family-owned, The Beacon Daily has an incredible Thanksgiving catering menu offering brined and smoked turkey breast, chicken sausage stuffing, redskin mashed potatoes, bacon and brussels sprouts, cheesy mac, glazed carrots, cheddar scallion biscuits, and more. Their dessert menu includes three flavors of pie—apple crumble, pecan, and pumpkin. See their website to order.

Beacon Bread Company (193-195 Main Street)

A staple on Main Street since 2014, Beacon Bread Company has just announced its aptly-named Thanksgivings Most Wanted menu. Mouthwatering offerings include Bread Pudding with Bourbon Glaze or Pumpkin Spice, Chocolate Bundt Cake (vegan or regular), house sweet loaves, Ziatun’s baklava, classic cornbread and fluffy fresh baked dinner rolls. Note, they’re taking pre-orders until Sunday November 24th. See their website or Instagram for full details.

All You Knead (308 Main Street)

Order by Friday, November 22nd for delicious artisanal breads and pies from this locals’ favorite. All You Knead’s Thanksgiving menu includes: every type of bread you may want including jalapeño cheddar or kalamata olive; apple, pumpkin, or coconut custard pie; chicken pot pies; assorted cookies sold by the pound; pretzels, bagels, bialys, croissants, and potato knishes. Stop by the store or call them on (845) 440-8530.

A vegetarian & vegan-friendly Thanksgiving

Kitchen & Coffee (382 Main Street)

Gluten-free and 100% vegetarian (and often vegan, we’re thrilled to share), Kitchen & Coffee has delicious pies, breads, sweets, soups, and more for Thanksgiving. They’re taking pre-orders online through to November 17th.  Mouth-watering choices include pumpkin pie, apple crumble pie, coffee cake loaf, brown butter chocolate chip cookies (seriously, yum!), garlic herb rolls, and demi-baguettes. The vegans among us won’t miss out with vegan pumpkin pie, pecan pie, cranberry and orange loaf, a cookie box, butternut squash soup, dry mix stuffing, and cranberry and apple chutney.

More Pies, please

Noble Pies (137 Main Street)

As their name suggests, Noble Pies is known for its incredible range of pies. With four storefronts across the Hudson Valley, Noble Pies came to the west end of Main Street in 2023, offering slices and whole pies. In addition to traditional Thanksgiving pies like pumpkin, pecan, and apple, flavors for the season include Cherry Crumb, Peanut Butter Cream, Mince, Key Lime, and Black Dirt Chocolate Cream. There are gluten-free and sugar free options as well. Pre-order is available online. Order soon, as they are prone to sell out quickly.

Don’t forget the ice-cream

Stella’s Fine Market (155 Main Street)

If you ever needed a reason to skip the main course and go straight to dessert, then pick up some delicious specialty ice-cream from Stella’s Fine Market where owner Nikki is stocking Jeni’s Ice Cream holiday collection. Flavors featured are Sweet Potato Marshmallow Praline, White Chocolate Peppermint, Iced Molasses Gingerbread, Boozy Eggnog, and Pistachio Macaron. We’ll skip the main course and go straight to dessert, please (and thank you)! Talking of ice-cream, you can also order a scrumptious-looking ice-cream pie from Five Pennies Creamery. Stop by their booth at the Hudson Valley Food Hall to place your order.

Those looking for vegan-friendly ice-cream options can dip into The Vegan Stuff. Based in the Hudson Valley, The Vegan Stuff will deliver to Beacon. This Thanksgiving they’re offering ice-cream flavors including Pumpkinhead Spice and Cinnamon Apple Cider. They also offer pies, cheesecakes, bars, and brownies, all completely dairy-free and delicious, and all available for pre-order. All you have to do is place an order by November 19th via Instagram.

Appetizer or dessert?

Beacon Cheese Shop (378 Main Street)

Whether it’s a pre-dinner appetizer or a dessert offering, there’s always room for cheese at the Thanksgiving table. Beacon Cheese Shop specializes in gourmet cheese, charcuterie, and provisions.  Choose from small to large boards of cheese or cheese and charcuterie.  Order online or stop by the store to place your order. And remember to pick up some of their delicious fresh-baked baguettes to accompany your selection. It’s a perfect combination.

Just a small sherry for me, please

Paul Brady Wine, 344 Main Street

No festive meal is complete without a little tipple to accompany it. Once again, Main Street makes it easy to pick up a bottle (or two) with very little hassle and a whole lot of choice.

For an extensive selection of high quality international and US wines, visit Artisan Wine Shop (180 Main Street) where the wine is beautifully curated to suit all price points. It’s almost impossible to buy a bottle from this shop that would disappoint.

If you want to support the New York state wine industry, head to Paul Brady Wine at 344 Main Street. Paul Brady curates the best of New York’s wines, spirits, beers, and ciders from more than 50 producers around the state.

Those inclined to enjoy a unique wine from around the world should go to Dirty Bacchus (380 Main Street), where every wine is low-intervention, organic, biodynamic, sustainably farmed, and vegan.

Finally, for adventurous types who enjoy a pre-dinner cocktail, stock up at Dennings Point Distillery (10 N. Chestnut Street), for locally made, finely crafted essential spirits including a special release Beacon Bourbon, Beacon Apple Brandy, Great 9 Gin, and Viskill Vodka.

And a feast for the eyes

A tasty Thanksgiving feast deserves a beautifully dressed table to complement it. There’s three locations on Main Street that come to mind for those perfect finishing touches.

Sybil, 504 Main Street

Sybil (504 Main Street)

Raven Rose (474 Main Street)

Taper candles in an abundant array of colors, a perfect complement to any tablescape.

Utensil Kitchenware (143 Main Street)

Hostess/host gifts they’ll love

Planning and making a Thanksgiving dinner—whether it’s for four or 14—is an epic task. If you’re lucky enough to be a guest (and would like to be invited back again in the future), make sure the host knows just how much you appreciate them. Luckily, we have some shops on Main Street to help you with that, too!

Witch Hazel (176 Main Street)

A perfect destination for hostess gifts, especially those with a passion for cruelty free beauty. Perhaps a beautiful, scented candle by Dilo or Fischersund, a Nopalera mini soap trio gift set, or an Angan Seaweed Bath Salt. All perfect for delivering a shot of wellness after a busy day of entertaining.

Raven Rose (474 Main Street)

Not only is Raven Rose a helpful resource for gorgeous tablescapes, it’s also ideal for gifting. Charming and elegant jewelry, stunning fresh flowers, and a wide range of soy candles from the Brooklyn Candle Studio and the P.F. Candle Co.

You’ll find more gifting ideas here.

And there’s more…(updated November 18th)

Here’s a few new additions announced since we wrote this feature:

The Chocolate Studio (496 Main Street)

Ever heard of a Gourmetible? Us neither, but now we have, we definitely want some at our Thanksgiving table this year. Created by The Chocolate Studio, a Gourmetible is a crispy cracker layered with buttery caramel, rich chocolate, and topping including walnuts, toasted pecans, s’mores, or salty peanut butter pretzel. Available for pre-order via Instagram or via their Main Street shop.

Alps Hudson Valley (269 Main Street)

Family owned and operated since 1922, Alps is a Beacon icon offering artisanal and seasonal chocolates and sweets made in their factory on Main Street. For Thanksgiving, they’re offering delicious chocolate turkeys in all sizes. Stop by and pick one (two, or three) up before they sell out.

Beacon Farmers Market (223 Main Street)

The final market before Thanksgiving will be on Sunday, November 24th between 10AM and 2PM. For the freshest, most delicious veggies and produce, stock up at this award-winning weekly farmers market. If there’s a line, don’t worry, it’ll be worth the wait. From Long Season Farm, Obercreek Farm, and Sugershack Mushrooms to All You Knead, Little Loaf Bakeshop, and the Challah Pixie, there’s everything you’ll need, and more, for the Thanksgiving table.

That’s it for now! If you have recommendations you’d like to share, shoot us an email and we’ll consider adding them as an update to this feature.
