Give back to the Hudson Valley by volunteering on Bannerman (Pollepel) Island.
Managed by the Bannerman Castle Trust, an official “Friends” organization of the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, this unique historic landmark relies on dedicated volunteers to maintain its legendary gardens, winding trails, and iconic structures.
Whether you have a “green thumb” or a “handy” touch, there is a place for you:
- The Garden Crew: Meet on Wednesdays to plant, weed, and water the island’s vibrant flower beds under expert guidance.
- Island Projects: Assist with light carpentry, trail clearing, painting, and general site preservation to keep Pollepel Island safe and accessible.
- Ambassadors: Help with special events, from sunset concerts to theatrical performances like Dracula.
- Office & Archives: Help with occasional administrative tasks in our Main Street Gallery
- The RV Estuary Steward Maintenance Crew (Spring): Help get the Estuary Steward in ship shape for the beginning of the season.
Volunteers come over to the island on our workboat out of Cornwall on Hudson. Expect hands-on experience in historic preservation, and the chance to work in one of New York’s most breathtaking settings. If you’re at least 16 and ready to get your hands dirty for a good cause, email volunteer@bannermancastle.org to join the crew!
