We got the keys to our home in Beacon in February. The streets and city seemed pretty quiet during those cold winter months. There was nearly three feet of snow around the house, and everything felt still.
I’ll never forget that first spring. I opened the living room blinds on the first warm day and looked outside. Children were riding their bikes up and down the street. Neighbors were tossing footballs. Dads were clinking beers, and moms were relaxing under the shade of the trees.
I turned to my husband and said, “Come look at this! Where did we move? This is like Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood or something from the 1950s.”
Fast forward five years, and now we’re part of that scene.
We’re outside with our neighbors, gathered around fire pits, watching outdoor movies, sharing countless barbecues, and playing lawn games until the sun goes down.
Yes, this is normal in Beacon. The community is real!
